DETROIT PUBLISHING POSTCARDSThe Detroit Publishing Co 1880’s-1936
In 1897, Detroit Photographic Company Ltd shifted production from books and calendars to postcards and became the sole American company to license the Swiss photochrom process, which DPC registered in 1907 under the name Phostint. Photographer William Henry Jackson joined the company as a partner and added thousands of negatives to the collection. Jackson traveled around the United States taking many additional pictures until 1903 when he took over the management of DPC's factory. The quality of their cards are considered some of the finest produced in America. More information at MetroPostcard. DPC cards with bright red titles were printed in Switzerland and the have an overall reddish color cast. Swiss cards seem to be confined to the 5000 and 6000 series but the subjects chosen seen to follow no pattern. |
